Marco VAN BASTEN

The best striker in history of football. Except of being prolific scorer Van Basten possessed excellent vision and distribution, which enabled him to play in deeper positions and provide excellent assists to his teammates, the most notable of which was his assist to Frank Rijkaard for Milan's winning goal in the 1990 European Cup final. Very tall striker but could count on a rapid execution uncommon even for small agile players. Besides he possessed an indomitable temperament and a strong character that made him even more formidable in the eyes of opponents and decisive in important games. Player with excellent ball control, lot of feints and great dribbling, pretty agile and mobile. But his trademark were spectacular volleys and bicycle kicks, he scored some of the greatest goals ever. Although he didn't have some rocket shot, he could score from all angles, with chip shots, two-footed player and solid free kick taker with good curl on the ball. Despite his size he had good pace and agility, coordination of movements and quick excecution, excellent positioning in the box and quick reactions. Another trademark of his repertoire was spectacular heading, he scored lot of grat headers from difficult positions, even if the cross came behind him he could convert it in goal, not to mention his superb diving headers. He also had good jump, physical strength and instinct for goal, calm in finishing with very precise shot. Unfortunately injuries destroyed his career, even more than Ruud Gullit since he had to retire aged 29.
